Tuckerton Seaport FREE Dinner

South Jersey needs a little Christmas, and Tuckerton Seaport, in partnership with the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce and 100.1 WJRZ invites all local families, regardless of need, to come together to enjoy a free meal and give thanks on Saturday, November 29th from noon to 4pm at the Tuckerton Seaport & Baymen’s Museum, 120 West Main Street (Route 9) in Tuckerton.

This community meal will be hosted on the Seaport’s grounds under a huge heated tent. Enjoy entertainment and plenty of family activities, including make-and-take crafts perfect for the holidays. This community event and activities will be offered at no cost.

The community meal at the Seaport will feature a Giving Tree, where guests can spread a little holiday cheer by selecting a local family and buying them holiday gifts.  If you know of a family in Southern Ocean County who is in need, please let us know so we can find them a Secret Santa. Santa’s Little Helpers will have until the second weekend in December to drop off their gifts.

Christmas in Island Heights House Tour and Craft Shows

Tickets are now on sale for the 31st annual Christmas in Island Heights House Tour and Craft Shows. Hosted by the Island Heights United Methodist Church, the event takes place on Saturday, December 6th from 10am to 4pm. The $30 admission fee includes entrance to six unique homes in historic Island Heights.

In addition, there will be two craft shows: one at the church, 111 Ocean Avenue and at the other at the Island Heights Elementary School, 115 Summit Avenue, Lake Avenue entrance, both free and open between 9am and 4pm.

For a nominal fee, lunch will be served at the church (Fellowship Hall) from noon to 4pm and will include homemade Methodist Minestrone soup, sandwiches and desserts. Breakfast is available at the church from 8 to 10:30am. ($5 adults, $3 children), and guests can enjoy hot beverages and homemade sweets in the tearoom at historic Bedlam Manor, 236 Ocean Avenue from 1 to 4pm for $4. Another popular feature, the “Man Cave,” will be open all day at the church for rest, relaxation, and refreshments.

On tour day, many Island Heights points of interest will open their doors, including: the Cottage Museum; The Studio at the John Peto house (admission fee $10); Ludlow Thorston Gallery; the Ocean County Artists’ Guild; the Island Heights Library; and St. Gertrude’s Roman Catholic Church.

A candlelight carol service will kick off home-tour weekend on Friday, December 5th at 7:30pm. Held in the beautiful sanctuary of the church, this free event is open to the public.

Tickets may be purchased for $30 at the Island Heights United Methodist Church, 111 Ocean Avenue, Monday through Thursday from 9am to 1pm, or at one of these Island Heights locations: Ludlow Thorston Galleries, 10 Central Avenue; Ocean County Artists' Guild, Ocean and Chestnut avenues; or Fast Break, 1635 Hwy 37 East; and in Toms River at Skip’s Florist, 1186 Washington Street.

Holiday Lighting Ceremony at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial

On Saturday, December 6th at 6pm, the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation, Vietnam Veterans Of America Bergen County Chapter 800 and the Jewish War Veterans Department of New Jersey will host the annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony at the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial, located at 1 Memorial Lane, Holmdel, NJ (Garden State Parkway Exit 116 on the grounds of the PNC Arts Center).

The ceremony will include the lighting of the Christmas Tree and Menorah, readings about Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, and a visit from Santa. The Brick Memorial High School Caroling Choir will lead the crowd in a spirited sing-along of patriotic and holiday songs.

Jingle Bells Run

Join 100.1 WJRZ at the 16th annual Jingle Bells Run, presented by The Rotary Club of Toms River, Sunday, December 7th on Washington Street, Downtown Toms River. The one-mile Fun Run starts at 3pm, with the 5k Race beginning at 3:30pm. Dedicated to the Memory of Det. Mark Catalano of the Toms River Police Department, The Rotary Club of Toms River is establishing an annual Law Enforcement student scholarship in his name. Downtown Toms River presents the 11th annual “Deck the Halls” Holiday Decorating Contest, sponsored by 100.1 WJRZ. District residents are invited to decorate the exterior of their homes with colorful lights, wreaths, scenery and other decorative ornaments. Home must be located within the boundaries of the Downtown Toms River area; Garden State Parkway East, to Hadley Ave. and the south-side of Route 37, south to the Toms River. Judging begins at 5pm on Wednesday, December 10th and continues for about 2 hours. Criteria used by judges are: Originality= unique design and creative use of lights and decorations, Arrangement= display and placement of decorations, Theme= story line or scene, Overall= overall presentation. 1st place will receive a cash prize of $200 and a yard sign designating your home as the winner of the 2014 “Deck the Homes” Holiday Decorating contest. 2nd place will receive a $100 cash prize and plaque. 3rd place will receive a $50 cash prize and plaque. St. Francis Community Center Gift of Warmth Project

Attention all Community Members! It’s that time again to think about our Gift of Warmth Project. St. Francis Community Center's annual holiday project is underway and we need your help. This project is focused on keeping the children in our community warm throughout the winter. In past years, this project has provided over 800 children with blankets, clothing and footwear.

If you are interested in being a part of this year’s project, you can help in the following ways:

Sponsor a family: provide "Gifts of Warmth" to all children in a particular family. If you would like to sponsor a family or need more information, please call 609-494-8861 ext.194.

Monetary Donations (including gift cards) may be mailed to: 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Long Beach Township, NJ 08008 or dropped off at the front desk of the Community Center.

Grab a Tag! Tags with gift requests are located at St. Francis Community Center and at the Brant Beach Church. Tags are also available at trees located throughout the community: Mud City Crab House and The Old Causeway in Manahawkin, Farias on Long Beach Island and Murphy’s Market in Beach Haven.

Help us attain our goal of serving the children of 275 families within our community. Gifts should be returned no later than December 12th at the St. Francis Community Center foyer. Cell Phones for Soldiers

Cell Phones for Soldiers are being collected by Nancy Seibert, along with the Berkeley Twp. Regular Republican Club “Support the Troops Project."

They collect any phone in any condition and send them to a recycler for free 60-minute calling cards for our troops serving overseas.
