Miss Piggy once said, "Never eat more than you can lift," BUT, you can at THE STRAND fundraiser at Houlihan’s this September!

The board of THE STRAND is inviting the public to a fundraiser Tuesday, September 23rd from 5 to 9pm at Houlihan’s Restaurant, 491 Route 70 East, Brick. Just present a flyer and eat. Houlihan’s will donate 10 percent of the proceeds for the evening to benefit THE STRAND as long as you present the flyer about this event.

Prayer Service

Several local churches are sponsoring a prayer service at the Barnegat Municipal Dock on Thursday, September 25th, with a rain date of Friday, September 26th. The service will be from 7 to 8pm. St. Barbara Greek Festival 2014

Starting on Friday, September 26th and continuing through Sunday, September 28th, the St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church of Toms River will host their 40th annual Greek Festival. This year’s will be the best ever, with a spectacular Greek menu, dancing, live music, famous Greek Pastries and must see performances by the award winning GOYA Dance Troupe.

The opening and closing times are as follows:

Friday, September 26: Noon-Midnight

Saturday, September 27: Noon-Midnight

Sunday, September 28: Noon-6pm

The festival will be held at the St. Barbara Community Center and Church grounds, located at 2200 Church Road, Toms River. Parking will be on the premises with over-flow parking at Ocean County College Lot #2 (across the street from the church grounds) with continuous door to door Shuttle Bus Service.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Saturday, September 27th at the corners of Arnold and Baltimore Avenues in Point Pleasant Beach. Nearly 4,000 people from the Ocean, Monmouth and Middlesex County areas are expected at this year’s event to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease.

Participants will complete a 2.5 mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. They will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

Cub Scout Pack 30 Popcorn Show and Sell

Help Cub Scout Pack 30 of Citta Elementary School in Toms River to raise money for their big camping trip to the Philadelphia Zoo at Stop & Shop, 2360 Rt. 9, Toms River on Saturday, September 27th from 9am to 1pm. A portion will go to Pack 30’s "Save Our Animals" project, which is their theme of the year. Pack 30 will be basing their entire year on what they can do to help save our animals.

They will also be doing separate fundraisers to get a trailer for their overnight camping trips.

With Popcorn Show and Sell sales scouts and their families will stand outside of a store location and ask if anyone would like to purchase popcorn from their pack.

Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show, presented by the Vietnam Veterans of America New Jersey State Council

The 3rd annual Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show, presented by the Vietnam Veterans of America New Jersey State Council, will be held on Saturday, September 27th from 10am to 4pm at  the PNC Bank Arts Center parking lot, 1 Memorial Lane in Holmdel (exit 116 off the Garden State Parkway). Admission: $20 donation to register vehicle, $5 donation per spectator, children under 12 are free. Join a fun-filled day featuring DJ entertainment, vendors, food and vehicle displays. Angels for Animals Educational Fundraiser

Angels for Animals will be holding their 1st Educational Fundraiser on Saturday, October 4th at the Manchester Firehouse, 545 Commonwealth Blvd., Toms River. Their mission is to help strengthen the voices that help protect animals by raising awareness regarding animal abuse and educate others on what they can do to help. All proceeds will provide funds to three local animal rescue groups/organizations. These three groups include The Animal Protection League, Homeless Animal Lifeline and Puppy Love Pet Rescue.

If you are interested in donating, you can contact one of the group members below and we will gladly schedule a pick up of your donation. Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated. No donation is too small.

Purr'n Pooch Foundation for Animals annual 5K Canine Classic Run/Walk

The Purr'n Pooch Foundation for Animals will hold its 4th annual 5K Canine Classic Run/Walk to benefit animal charity on Saturday, October 4th. The race begins at 8am seaside at Pier Village, 1 Chelsea Ave., Long Branch. All are welcome to attend and dogs are required to run or walk on leash. One dog per handler/runner is requested. Race shirts will be given to all pre-registered two-legged participants and are subject to availability for same day registrants. Cost is $30 per pre-registered adult, $35 on race day, and dogs walk or run for free. Race is rain or shine.

Beachwood 5k River Run & 1 Mile Fun Run

The 3rd annual Beachwood 5k River Run & 1 Mile Fun Run will be held on Saturday, October 4th (rain or shine) at 9am, presented by the Beachwood Recreation Commission. Register today at www.jerseyrunner.com. Course runs along the scenic Toms River in Beachwood. The race starts and ends on the waterfront and winds past parks, waterfront homes, the Yacht Club, Marina, and War Memorial.

Howl-O-Ween Parade & Dog Day in the Park

A Howl-O-Ween Parade and Dog Day is scheduled for Saturday, October 4th starting at 10am at Cattus Island County Park, off Fischer Blvd., Toms River. This free event is sponsored by the Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department. The Dog Day includes information, displays and demonstrations. The day ends with a pet costume parade. The prizes will be for the best dog/owner combo, most original and funniest. Join the free parade or come to watch.

The Friends of Toms River Library annual Golf Outing

The Friends of Toms River Library will host their 3rd annual Golf Outing on Wednesday, October 8th at Bey Lea Golf Course in Toms River. All proceeds support the Toms River library branch, including the purchase of special equipment and sponsorship of various programs and children’s activities.

The cost to play in the golf outing is $80 for a single golfer, $300 for a foursome and $100 for a hole sponsor.

Strides for Babies New Jersey Timed 5k Run & Family Fun Walk

Join a day of family fun at Strides for Babies New Jersey Timed 5k Run & Family Fun Walk at Thompson Park in Lincroft on Sunday, October 12th.

Strides for Babies NJ is an event where hundreds of families who have been affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) will join together to celebrate the lives of their babies that were taken away from them far too soon. Please join us in supporting these families in their efforts to eliminate these tragedies and show your community how much you care.

Long Beach Island Commemorative 18 Mile Run

The 42nd annual Long Beach Island Commemorative 18 Mile Run will take place on Sunday, October 12th at 10:30am in Holgate, the southernmost point of LBI. Participants will run north on Long Beach Blvd. for 18 miles and finish at Barnegat Light State Park. The event is sponsored by St. Francis Community Center, 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, in cooperation with the LBI Jewish Community Center.

Applications are now being accepted, and registration will continue until race day. Buses will be provided for registered runners and will begin leaving for the starting line at 8am. Buses will continue to run from the finish line to the Community Center. The finish line closes at 2:15pm. All runners are invited to a recognition luncheon at the Center immediately following the race.

Cell Phones for Soldiers

Cell Phones for Soldiers are being collected by Nancy Seibert, along with the Berkeley Twp. Regular Republican Club “Support the Troops Project."

They collect any phone in any condition and send them to a recycler for free 60-minute calling cards for our troops serving overseas.
